ITINERARY

DAY 1: ATHENS – DELPHI – METEORA

Our driver will pick you up from your hotel, and we will start your private tour by moving north out of Athens and towards Delphi. Our first stop will be at the Archaeological site of Delphi, which includes the Temple of Apollo, the most famous Oracle of the Ancient World for more than 16 centuries, the Theater, the Stadium that hosted the athletic events of Pythia, the Holy fountain of Castalia and the Archaeological Museum. Delphi is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1987. After you visit the site, you can have a traditional lunch at the village of Delphi. Later, we'll drive to the picturesque town of Arachova for a quick stop before we cross the Holy Mountain of Parnassus towards Meteora, a place uniquely sculptured by nature. We'll stay overnight in the town of Kalambaka, nestled beneath the Mountain, and view the spectacular sight of the rocky Mountain lit by night.

DAY 2: METEORA – THERMOPYLAE – ATHENS

After breakfast, we will visit a few monasteries that perch atop the magnificent rocks, reaching up to 600 m. UNESCO has characterized the monasteries of Meteora as a unique phenomenon of cultural heritage and included them in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1988. After our visit, we can have lunch in the town of Kalambaka and then return to Athens with a short stop at the memorial of the battlefield of Thermopylae and the monument of the Spartan King Leonidas, who fought with his 300 men and the 700 Thespians of Demophilos, against hundreds of thousands of Persians and all the Greeks were killed. In the late afternoon, we will arrive back in Athens.

ARGOLIS - ANCIENT OLYMPIA / Two-Days Private Tours

ITINERARY

DAY1: ATHENS - CORINTH CANAL – EPIDAURUS – NAFPLIO – MYCENAE - OLYMPIA

Our driver will pick you up from your hotel, and we'll start your Private Tour by moving west out of Athens, following the coastal road to Corinth.
The first stop will be the Isthmus of Corinth, where the Canal connecting the Saronic with the Corinthian Gulf will be seen. Very Impressive engineering at the end of the 19th century when the Canal was constructed, and it is 6,2 km long, 80 m high, and 25 m wide. Periandros first attempted to open a Canal there in the 6th century BC. Later, Roman Emperor Nero started the excavations again, an expensive project abandoned soon after his death. From the 6th century BC, a paved road called Diolkos was built following the landscape between the two gulfs from side to side so they could pull the ships over the land, avoiding the dangerous and long way around the Peloponnese.
The next stop will be at the Archaeological Site of Epidaurus, where you will visit the Museum, the famous Theatre with its incredible acoustic, and the archaeological site of Asclepιeion, an ancient hospital named after the god of medicine Asclepius.
The next stop will be Nafplio, the first Capital of Modern Greece, for a few years after Greece gained independence from the Ottoman Empire. We can have lunch in the Old Town and visit the tourist area on the narrow streets of this traditional part of Nafplio. After we leave Nafplio, we will visit the nearby Archaeological site of Mycenae, with the Palace of Agamemnon, the Museum, and the Treasure of Atreus, and then drive to Olympia. Stay overnight in Olympia.

DAY 2: ANCIENT OLYMPIA – ATHENS

The following morning, we will visit the archaeological site, the Stadium where the ancient Olympic games were held, and the two museums on the site, the Archaeological Museum and the Olympic Museum. We can also visit the Technological Museum of Archimedes in the village of Olympia. After this visit, we can have lunch in Olympia, and later, we'll drive the scenic road over the Mountain Mainalon, making our way back to Athens in the late afternoon.

After this visit, we can have lunch in a traditional tavern before moving to our next stop in Ancient Nemea and the Archaeological site, including the Temple of Zeus and the Archaeological Museum.
Nemea's Stadium is also nearby, where Nemea's famous athletic events, dedicated to Zeus, took place.
We will visit one of the small wineries in the valley of Nemea before we visit the Archaeological site of Mycenae, the Palace of Agamemnon, the Museum, and the Treasure of Atreus. The last stop is the city of Nafplio, where you can visit the traditional, old part of the city with the many coffee shops and restaurants on the small, narrow streets. Nafplio was the first Capital City of Modern Greece for a few years after Greece's Independence from the Ottoman Empire. Stay overnight in Nafplio.

DAY 2: NAFPLIO – EPIDAURUS – ATHENS

After breakfast, we can visit the War Museum and the Palamidi Castle before we drive to Epidaurus, where you will see the Museum, the famous Theatre with exceptional acoustic, and the area of the Asclepιeion, an ancient Hospital named after the god of medicine Asclepius. After we visit Epidaurus, we can have lunch on the way back to Athens in a very scenic environment, arriving in the city late afternoon.
